Automated Testing For Any Budget

New Features in TestComplete 8

The new release includes over 120 new features, functional and usability enhancements, driven by feedback and requests from our global community. We pack yet more test automation for the users with the following key new features and updates:

  • Test Visualizer enables quick and intuitive comparisons between expected and actual screens by automatically capturing screenshots during test recording and playback
  • New wizards for easier creation of data-driven tests using Excel, DB, and CSV data sources
  • Support for Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4 applications
  • Support for Silverlight 4 and Firefox 3.6
  • Integration bridges for the SmartBear own Software Planner, Atlassian JIRA, and Axosoft OnTime defect-tracking systems
  • Automatic importing of manual test instructions from Word, Excel and text files
  • Improved support for dynamic web controls

Test Items
Using test items you can easily build the desired sequence of tests.

Test Log
Here’s where you see all of your testing results and efforts.

Object Browser
TestComplete’s Object Browser lets you explore all processes running in the operating system and view their internal structure. The usefulness of this panel cannot be overstated.

HTTP Task Editor
Here is where you can view and edit recorded HTTP traffic.

Load Testing Analysis Page

Load Test Analysis Page
Here you can explore and analyze load testing results.

Web Service Test Editor
Here you can explore the web service under test: view its methods and their parameters, the objects used by the methods, and so on. You can also quickly generate code for creating complex input parameters for service’s methods.

Manual Test Editor
Here testers can create and preview manual tests. These step-by-step test instructions can be written in HTML of XML, imported from external sources and exported to Microsoft Word or other formats.

User Forms
TestComplete includes a full-featured form designer that allows testers create custom forms that can be used for data entry or display during automated tests.

TestComplete - Supported Development Tools

TestComplete is not dependant on any development tool. It can simulate user actions (keystrokes, mouse movements, clicks and dragging operations) under any application no matter whether this application was created in C#, Visual C++, Delphi or Java. However, in most cases, this kind of testing (testing via GUI) cannot provide reliable and thorough results, so QA engineers need access to the application internal objects, methods and properties. This is required, for example, for unit testing. You can get this access using TestComplete since it is able to “open” the internal objects, methods and properties and even some private object elements in applications that were created with the following development tools:

  All existing .NET compilers. For instance:
  • Microsoft: Visual C#, Visual Basic .NET and Visual C++ .NET (managed code) ver. 7.0, 7.1,  8.0 and 9.0 (Visual Studio ver. 8.0 only with Service Pack 1 installed), JScript .NET.
  • Non-Microsoft: CodeGear Delphi 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2007, Borland Delphi for .NET (Delphi 8, Delphi 2005, Delphi 2006), Borland C#Builder, Python .NET, Cobol .NET, Perl .NET, and others.

TestComplete supports applications created with .NET Framework ver. 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0

Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0, Visual C++ (unmanaged code) ver. 7.0, 7.1, 8.0 and 9.0
(Visual Studio ver. 8.0 only with Service Pack 1 installed).
Intel C++ 11.0.0066
64-bit Windows, .NET and Java applications.
Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0.
  Borland Delphi 3.0—7.0, Delphi 2005 and 2006, CodeGear Delphi 2007 and 2009, Embarcadera Delphi 2010
  Borland C++Builder 3.0—6.0, C++Builder 2006, CodeGear C++Builder 2007 and 2009, Embarcadera C++Builder 2010
Any Java development tool that supports one of the following Java virtual machines:
  • Sun JRE v. 1.1.8—6
  • MSJVM, build 3309 or later
  • BEA JRockit 5.0

For example, NetBeans, Eclipse, Microsoft Visual J++ 1.1 or later, Borland JBuilder 3.0 or later, Sun Forte 1.0 or later and others.

JavaFX 1.1, 1.2 or 1.2.1 Software Development Kit (SDK)
Macromedia Flash 1.0—8.0, Adobe Flash 9.0 and later
Any Flex development tool. For example, Adobe Flex Builder 2.0 and later.
Microsoft Silverlight 2 and 3
Qt ver. 4.5.0 by Qt Software (32-bit and 64-bit Qt applications are supported). You can also download additional modules that provide support for Qt version 4.4.3
Sybase PowerBuilder 10.0 and later
Microsoft FoxPro 7.0 and later
Microsoft Office Access 2003 and 2007
Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003 and 2007

Since TestComplete can test any Windows application via GUI, it can simulate keystrokes and mouse clicks in any Internet browser. This allows you to test web pages with any Internet browser. However, currently, you can only access properties and methods of HTML elements on a web page shown in Internet Explorer 5-8, Firefox 1.5-3.5, or in any instance of the Web Browser control. Partial support is available for Netscape Naviator 8.1.2.
Performance, load, stress and scalability testing of web servers do not depend on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Mozilla, Opera, etc.), the server type (Microsoft IIS, Apache, etc.) or platform (Windows, Linux, etc.). With TestComplete you can perform this testing with any web server working on any platform.
